  • 1. Entrant Information

    Please provide the following information with your submission (as available/applicable).
  • Provide a summary description of the property (as it relates to the initiative), the initiatives/programs for consideration, and why the property should be considered for the Sustainable Investment award. (400 words maximum).
  • Describe the aspects of the project or property that are most innovative, and least found among peer hotels (200 words maximum, bullet points allowed).
  • Describe why the hotel investment audience should be interested in the application (200 words maximum, bullet points allowed).
  • Describe the total investment in the project or the ROI that demonstrates the exemplary application of capital (200 words maximum).
  • Describe and quantify benefits to the environmental footprint and social impact, such as reduction in energy, water, waste carbon emissions, materials purchased, etc. or jobs created, economic value created, other community impact (200 words maximum).
  • Describe how innovative mechanisms to fund the project were utilized, such as green bonds, crowdfunding, guest contributions, partnerships, incentives, rebates, etc. (300 words maximum).
  • Describe any additional forms of investment analysis applied such as valuation of environmental/ social risk or natural capital, bundling of ROI across initiatives, transitioning variable operating costs to assets, increasing guest satisfaction or employee retention, supporting social license to operate, etc. (200 words maximum).
  • Describe how the investment was used to encourage awareness and positive change across the project’s partners such as suppliers, JV partners, lenders, etc. (200 words maximum).
  • The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a common set of development goals for all communities in every country, to collectively address the world’s most urgent yet solvable problems by 2030. Governments, NGOs, and business are aligning and contextualizing their initiatives with the SDGs, helping identify and measure progress and solutions. Adopted in September 2015, the SDGs replaced the Millennium Development Goals, which were in place for the past decade and a half. Countries started to implement the new framework in January 2016. The majority of large businesses, including most hotel chains, are addressing the SDGs. The HICAP Sustainable Hotel Awards also provide the opportunity to relate the hotel industry’s efforts to support the SDGs.

  • Hotel Owners for Tomorrow

    Hotel Owners for Tomorrow (HOT) is a coalition bringing together hotel owners committed to building a sustainable future and leave a lasting legacy. It is a voluntary, no-cost commitment for owners of hotel real estate, supported by brands, network partners, development partners, and media to help owners to commit to 5 no-cost actions. For more information see www.hotelsfortomorrow.org.
  • Supplemental Information for Award Consideration

    In addition to the criteria above, each entry can submit additional detail their exemplary and quantifiable sustainable development practices according to the award category criteria so the judges can make informed and appropriate assessments.

    Supplemental information must adhere to the guidelines in the award description:
    - File Format: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or PDF (keeping in mind File Size restrictions)
    - File Size: 10MB and 20 pages maximum
    - Font: No smaller than 12 point.
    - Language: English

    Please do not use acronyms or abbreviations unless explicit explanation is provided.
    Please feel free to use bullet points where appropriate.
    Please include photos/images as visual support in illustrating core components of your hotel’s entry.
    Data charts, tables, and calculations are accepted within the supplemental material.
    Boilerplate content and unrelated initiatives (i.e. program for training at-risk youths in the kitchen for a hotel applying for Sustainable Design) will not be reviewed and risks diluting the application’s relevant strengths.
