Hong Kong – Burba Hotel Network (BHN), Horwath HTL, and Stiles Capital Events, co-hosts and organizers of the annual Hotel Investment Conference Asia Pacific (HICAP), are pleased to announce HICAP’s support of the YCI program in Asia Pacific. YCI is a global program that partners with the international hotel industry to provide young people with limited socio-economic opportunities with life and work skills. YCI operates in 15 countries across the world.
“We are very pleased to be able to provide financial support to the terrific work being done by YCI in the Asia Pacific region, and look forward to seeing the program grow and create even more positive impact on the lives of young people in the region,” said Jim Burba, president of BHN and HICAP co-host. “HICAP is the most prominent annual gathering of the hotel investment community in the region, and we hope that by shining a spotlight on this program we will encourage more hoteliers and industry leaders to support YCI’s efforts in Asia Pacific,” Burba added.
Currently operating in India, Vietnam, and Australia, with students trained at 17 hotels, and with plans to expand to Thailand, YCI is set to be the employment program of choice for hotels in the Asia Pacific region. With 85% of students graduating and going on to pursue employment or further education, YCI provides students with vital work and life skills, making them economically self-reliant and breaking the cycle of poverty.
Director of International Tourism Partnership and Youth Career Initiative, Stephen Farrant, comments: “YCI, created by the industry for the industry, has the power to transform lives. With an ambitious 5 year growth plan, we are delighted to welcome HICAP as our newest partner. 75 million young people worldwide are seeking employment, and 60% of young people in developing regions are out of employment, education or engaged in irregular employment. Meanwhile, the hotel industry is seeking new talent in local markets as it grows, so initiatives like YCI present a clear win-win for the industry and for some of the most vulnerable young people in society.”
