Costa Mesa, California — Hosts of the Hotel Investment Conference Asia Pacific (HICAP) have announced that three visionary principals, Gerald Allison, Donald Goo, and Gregory Tong, of world renowned architecture firm Wimberly, Allison, Tong & Goo (WATG) will be awarded the Innovation Award at the event, scheduled for October 15-17, 2008, at the InterContinental Hong Kong. The 19th annual HICAP is hosted by BHN and Horwath HTL.
The HICAP Innovation Award recognizes and celebrates a person(s) or company who has created uniquely innovative products, services, ideas, or processes which have expanded, enhanced and advanced the hospitality and tourism industries in the Asia Pacific region and beyond. Since its inception in 1945, WATG has worked in 157 countries and territories across six continents “designing experiences that lift the spirit.” Every night, 134,000 hotel guests around the world are inspired by properties designed by WATG, the first architecture firm in the world to conduct research which reveals a consistent and quantifiable relationship between good design and their hotel clients’ bottom line. Together, Allison, Goo, and Tong, have worked on many of the firms most notable projects around the Asia Pacific region over the past 50 years.
Allison joined WATG in 1957 and serves as the firm’s senior advisor. His project experience includes the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel on Lantau Island, China; the Tanjong Jara Resort, Malaysia: and the Hotel Bora Bora in Tahiti. Goo currently is a senior advisor to WATG, having served in the past as a partner and president of the firm. His list of projects includes the Borneo Resort Karambunai in Sabah, Malaysia; the Outrigger Hotel Tahiti, French Polynesia; and the Nexus Napa Hotel & Casino in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Tong joined WATG in 1955 and serves as WATG’s Chairman Emeritus on the Board of Directors. His notable projects include the Cheju Shilla Hotel on Cheju Island, Korea; the Fijian Hotel, Fiji; and the Hotel Green Villa in Korea.
